American McGee announced yesterday his latest project: OZombie, a zombie themed Wizard of Oz action adventure game. This launch was made in Kickstarter itself, campaigning for the game to be developed for the amount of $ 950,000. If funding is successful, the game will be developed independently by Spicy Horse Games. McGee has not yet announced any platforms, but goes into details on game, story and crowdfund elements.

The game will be built around Unity3D and to be initially published for PC, Linux and Mac and tablets. Spicy Horse intends to eventually publish the game to all Unity3D supported platforms. Gameplay will feature a combination of exploration, tactical combat, role-playing and other game modes, as well as storytelling.

McGee cites the 14 original Oz Books as inspiration for the game, but will also take it into his own direction, citing Robert Heinlein. This Oz will be a location in the real world, an island in the Pacific Ocean.

The game pitch also teases a tantalizing element of this Kickstarter: The Box. Promising to reveal connections between the OZombie and Alice:Otherlands worlds, They will open The Box and its secrets when the campaign reaches 6000 backers. Chris Vrenna will be signed up for the soundtrack when they reach 11,000 backers, and additional backer number-based stretch goals are also being teased.

In an update, McGee addresses concerns regarding Alice sequels. He does intend to make more Alice games in the future, but explains that each new game requires costly and lengthy negotiations with EA since both value the brand so much.

Earlier this year, McGee was successful in funding Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, barely passing the $ 200,000 goal with $ 204,680. You can read our coverage of the game's release here.
