There’s an RPG out there for everyone. The genre is filled with all sorts of different games that are filled with a narrative journey with action and adventure. This generation of gaming has seen a number of fantastic RPG titles that are worth picking up, but if you’re seeking a new game to enjoy on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, or the Nintendo Switch, then take a look at our list below.

We’ve compiled our personal favorite twenty-five RPG titles that have released within the past five years. Of course, we want to know what your favorite RPG title is on this platform generation. Let us know by leaving a comment down below.


#30 Kingdom Come: Deliverance
  • Developer: Deep Silver
  • Publisher: Deep Silver

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a more accurate period piece role-playing game. Set in 1403 within the Kingdom of Bohemia, the old king has passed leaving his heir to struggle in maintaining order within the lands. Players take on the role of a blacksmith’s son who is out for vengeance when his family is slaughtered during an attack. As mentioned, developers Warhorse Studios has taken great care in presenting a game that would show an accurate depiction of the period with various armor, clothing, combat techniques, and real-world castles.

#29 Vampyr
  • Developer: Dontnod Entertainment
  • Publisher: Focus Home Interactive

Dontnod Entertainment has crafted up some popular titles already. Their debut title Remember Me sparked the highly beloved Life is Strange IP. Following up the release of Life is Strange is Vampyr, a vastly different IP then what the developers have worked on before.

Vampyr takes place during the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic in London where players step into the role of a doctor named Jonathan Reid. Our protagonist is in a predicament as he is a vampire with a bloodthirsty nature, but is battling his condition for his Hippocratic Oath. Being an action role-playing title, players can traverse parts of the world while also leveling up Jonathan in order to unlock new abilities and skills.

#28 The Surge
  • Developer: Deck13 Interactive
  • Publisher: Focus Home Interactive

The Surge follows a future in which mankind had successfully consumed all of the basic resources needed to survive. This has left a strain of environmental diseases and crisis. Needing the use of exoskeletons to battle the infected, players must track down new technologies as they attempt to rid the infected.

#27 Final Fantasy XV
  • Developer: Square Enix Business Division 2
  • Publisher: Square Enix

Final Fantasy XV is an action role-playing video game and the fifteenth main installment to the Final Fantasy franchise. Overall the story of Final Fantasy XV will center between two empires that have declared war, Lucis and Nifheim, though after Nifheim successfully captures the kingdom’s crystal of Lucis, a group of friend’s sets out to regain it. Players take control of Noctis, prince of Lucis, who teams up with his fellow friends in a grand journey against a massive empire force. The game is also set in an open world environment with available quests and collectibles to gather.

#26 Kingdom Hearts 3

  • Publisher: Square Enix

Kingdom Hearts III finally came out into the marketplace in 2019. The game was highly anticipated as Square Enix took years to bring out the third installment. Of course, this game franchise is known for a complex narrative thanks to the side story game releases, but you will get a good recap of what you need to know if you jump right into the third installment. Regardless, this single player video game follows Sora and his gang as he embarks on a journey that takes him to a wide range of Disney themed worlds such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Toy Story, and Frozen. Overall, the game will have players collecting keyblades and stopping the heartless and bringing back a peaceful state. If you enjoy action RPG titles then this is one game you should consider picking up.
