Top 30 Best RPGs of Last 5 Years

October 19, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

You won’t want to miss out on these great RPG titles!

#10 Xenoblade Chronicles 2
  • Developer: Monolith Soft
  • Publisher: Nintendo

Xenoblade Chronicles was a big hit for the Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo Switch received a sequel not long after. Much of the game mechanics make a return though the story will evidently star a new character. Overall, the game is set within the world of Elysium which is made up of mostly clouds. Right from the start of the game players will be introduced to a war between kingdoms Mor Ardain and Uraya.

#9 Dark Souls III
  • Developer: FromSoftware
  • Publisher: Bandai Namco Entertainment

The Souls series is noted to be one of the more challenging video games to go through. From the development team, FromSoftware, there are four main installments, the latest of which is only available on current generation consoles.

Each installment plays a third-person adventure title that has a strong focus on timing attacks against the plethora of enemies you’ll encounter. Because of the timing when using weapons and magic, the monsters within the environments can quickly drain a character’s HP causing the series as a whole to be rather infamous.

#8 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
  • Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks

Skyrim is the fifth game in Bethesda’s ever popular series of role-playing games, The Elder Scrolls. Like its predecessors, Skyrim takes place in an open environment which is full of exploration, wonder and a whole slew of quests. You can easily spend countless hours within this fantasy world and we’d honestly be surprised to find a gamer who has yet to experience this journey. If you have yet to do so, pick up The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition as it comes with past DLC and begin to weave your very own tale.

#7 Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition
  • Developer: Larian Studios
  • Publisher: Larian Studios
Divinity Original Sin is a prequel to Divine Divinity. The game was a massive success with classic turn-based combat and even cooperative multiplayer. Within the narrative, the game is set in a fantasy world where players take the role of two sorcerers sent out on an investigation. This quickly unfolds into a grand scheme filled with conspiracy surrounding sorcerers as a whole.
We won’t spoil too much the narrative but what really made this game a hit was the editor mode it shipped with. With this editor, players were able to craft their very own unique narrative adventures which could then be uploaded for others to download and enjoy.
#6 Monster Hunter: World
  • Developer: Capcom
  • Publisher: Capcom

The Monster Hunter franchise is consistently growing and with each new installment a number of new gamers explore the monster filled worlds development studio Capcom has crafted. Monster Hunter: World marks as the fifth main installment to the franchise and as you can expect, there will be a number of notable updates.

For instance, Capcom has placed larger maps, a more seamless experience between zones and what’s a Monster Hunter video game without the ability to hunt with friends? Outside of the offline campaign, the game will allow a four-player online co-op opportunity.
