Tech demos rarely turn into actual, playable video games. As you’d guess, they’re most often just examples of what exactly a new engine is capable of. However, the video for Square Enix’s Agni's Philosophy is one that we’ve been shown on multiple occasions. It was first introduced to the world back in 2012, and more recently, we saw the same video displayed at the unveiling of the PlayStation 4. It’s been touted as a real-time demo for the future Final Fantasy, but an Amazon listing for the demo itself has been discovered by a hawkeyed NeoGaf member.
This is a strange one. Although we’ve seen projects like Mirror’s Edge 2 pop up on the online retailer over the last few weeks, the fact that a listing for a tech demo has appeared is peculiar. Since Agni’s Philosophy is so closely tied to Final Fantasy, it’s possible that this is simply a placeholder until the new game announced. With E3 taking place next week, Square might just be getting ready for a big reveal.
What’s also difficult to explain is the fact that this is just a PS4 game. We expect all future Final Fantasy project to be on both Microsoft and Sony’s box, which makes it possible that this is Final Fantasy Versus XIII and not Final Fantasy XV. We know that the game is still in development in some form or another, and it would be pretty perfect for it to come back into the spotlight during E3. For now, though, we’ll just have to take this as a strange discovery.
