GTA 5: “Outstanding Realism” in Environment and Wildlife Explained

May 28, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

A journalist who previewed Grand Theft Auto 5 spoke highly of the game’s depiction of wildlife and environments.

France-based website Gameblog.fr has just streamed a live Q&A video about Grand Theft Auto 5, where they got to experience a preview of the upcoming game while at Rockstar Games.

According to the journalists, the game is said to look as good as it does in the trailers, with full depth-of-field and other cinematic effects. Despite not being planned for the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4, the graphics look very next-gen and the journalist admits to feeling like he was "slapped" by the graphics. In further regards to the graphics, there's little aliasing to be seen and clipping is more or less nonexistent.

The journalist says he experienced vertigo during a scene in which Franklin made a jump from a tall height, due to the depth-of-field. The distance it took for Franklin to hit the ground took approximately 10 seconds.

The overall game looked better than anything he'd seen in Red Dead Redemption, with more realistic wildlife and environments that were on par with something you might see in a nature documentary.

Needless to say, his observations differ from those with lament the game's omission on next-gen platforms. A few days ago, a race track was also discovered by fans in the single image blueprint of the GTA 5 map.
