PlatinumGames's The Wonderful 101 has been on many people's radars ever since it was first revealed. Amongst those who either already own a Wii U or plan to, just for that one game.
After all, it's the latest from Hideki Kamiya, whose pedigree is without question (which includes Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, and Viewtiful Joe, among others).
Many will buy the game on day one. And apparently, many might also beat in on day one as well. According to Kamiya himself, via Kotaku:
"If u hate to finish a game the next day u buy it, u better not play TW101. I focus on how it is fun, not how long it lasts till the ending."
Kotaku, on their end, applauds such a sentiment, and even refers to one of Kamiya's own titles, Okami. Specifically how it overstayed its welcome, due to unnecessary padding.
It's also worth brining up another PlatinumGames release: Metal Gear Rising. Initial reports from journalists painted a less than enticing picture, of a game that seemingly had a paltry number of levels.
But playing it was another matter, thanks to the high degree of challenge and all the techniques that can be mastered. Among gamers, how many have complained that it's too short? Not too many.
Some have also compared it to a recent game of the year release, Journey. Even though it can be beaten in less than an hour, many applaud all the innovations that are brought to the table.
Though that particular game also cost just a few dollars, and it is expected that The Wonderful 101 will be a full retail package. Those who complain about games being too short should ultimately be excused for having such a stance.
Because there's honestly nothing wrong with wanting one's money's worth (the real debate then stems for what exactly is worth-while).
