Call of Juarez Gunslinger Lays Down The Law In Debut Trailer

March 14, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

You play a good guy, for once. Or what passes off as a good guy in the Wild West, anyway.

Call of Juarez Gunslinger

Call of Juarez Gunslinger takes the series back to the Wild West of the late 19th century and away from the modern day setting, seen in the game's most recent incarnation.

In a release by Ubisoft today, the new Call of Juarez Gunslinger is described as paying a "real homage" to the Wild West tales of the era—when Billy the Kid and Jesse James were household names—infamous for their crimes and the subject of newspapers and pulp fiction books.

The upcoming game will be made of memorable encounters with some of the West's most notorious characters and is set to "blur the lines between man and myth". Presumably, Gunslinger will be taking a cue from the likes of the HBO series Deadwood.

The trailer, released today resembles the intro for the aforementioned TV series and tells the tale of Silas Greaves, a ruthless bounty hunter who's sent to track these men down and bring them to justice—or to make them settle their tabs to society, as it were.

"They say that this is the land of the free, where freedom is whatever a man chooses it to be. So is the law," he says. "When justice is bought and paid for, and forced by the men with the quickest draw, what's to say what freedom, or even justice, means?"

Call of Juarez returns to its roots, and it looks pretty damn good. It’s set for release this quarter on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
