Tomb Raider Final Hours Looks at What Happens When a Game is Done

February 28, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

The team hopes it’s not over yet.

With mere days left before the game hits shelves worldwide, Square Enix has released the final video in its “The Final Hours” series that has demonstrated the various aspects of the game's creation. Among other things, we've learned about the voice acting, the audio design, and the addition of a multiplayer mode. In this video, presenter Zac Levi talks to various members of the team about how they feel now that the game is almost done.

We learn that most of the team is occupied with squashing bugs at this late stage, trying to fix as many as they can before they have to “put down their pencils”. Those who aren't necessarily coders may have spent the past few weeks occupying slightly different roles. Art director Brian Horton, for example, has been working on putting together screenshots and posters now that his work in the game itself is done.

So what will everyone be doing when the game is actually done and in the hands of players? Darrell Gallagher, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics, says he'll be trying to get twelve hours of sleep. Other team members say they won't know what to do with themselves, and one states that he won't be able to fully relax until the game is in the hands of consumers, and presumably until he can judge the general response to the game.

Luckily, it doesn't sound like any of these guys will find themselves out of a job now that the project is over. “Long may it continue,” Gallagher says of the game, “I see this getting bigger and better over the next few years.”

Tomb Raider will be available on PS3, 360, and PC on March 5th.
