Thomas Was Alone Coming To PS3 And PS Vita

February 27, 2013 by Mathew Jones

Be several rectangles who are friends! Use your sony consoles!

Mike Bithell’s Fantastic Part-Platformer Part-Friendship simulator is getting a release on Sony Platforms this spring.

If you’ve never played Thomas Was Alone through the release on Steam, it’s a game that successfully makes you care for the plight of a bunch of differently shaped rectangles. There’s no dialogue, there’s just a narration by Danny Wallace who every level gives a new perspective on the events of the game through the eyes of a different character. You feel for, and care about, the plight of things that can’t speak and don’t even look human. They’re single coloured shapes, but they’re better characterised than most other games in recent memory.

The best part of this news is that it’s revealed that this purchase works as a cross-buy. You’ll only have to pick up the game once and you’ll have access to both versions. Presumably this means that your saves will also carry across so you can play the vita version during the day and the PS3 version at home.

Some new content will emerge in this version, adding value to people that might have already bought the previous game. According to designer Mike Bithell in a tweet a new character will appear and will use the power of a jetpack. The new version will also feature developer commentary.

Conversion's being done by Stealth Bastard’s Curve Studios.

Presuming barely anything changes from the existing version, this is an essential purchase for anyone who has never played the game already. Pick it up when it’s out later in the year.
