Tecmo Koei Sees Huge Jump in Profits for 2013 Q3 Fiscal Year

February 4, 2013 by Alex Co

Tecmo Koei saw a huge leap in its profits for Q3 of its 2013 fiscal year.

Tecmo Koei, the publisher of games such as Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, saw a huge jump in net profits for 2013's third-quarter fiscal year.

For the three-month period ended December 31, 2012, the publisher posted revenues of $238.4 million (22.2 billion yen), which is a slight 6.5% increase year-on-year. But that's not the entire picture as net profits saw an astounding 291.7% to reach $27.9 million (2.6 billion yen).

Out of all of Tecmo Koei's investments, game software contributed the highest proportional total sales, which were up 9.8% year-on-year to $156.8 million (14.6 billion yen). Operating income for Tecmo Koei's game software was uo 83.6% to $26.8 million (2.5 billion yen).

The only divisions that didin't see an increase in both operating income and revenue were online and mobile. The two divisions saw a 10% drop in sales to $40.8 million (3.8 billion yen) and a 44.2% drop in operating income to $4.4 million (418 million yen).

Tecmo Koei's last major release was Dead or Alive 5 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, with a PS Vita port on the way in March.

So, I guess this proves sex sells even in games? Regardless though, those are some very impressive numbers.
