Over here in the UK, Wreck-It Ralph – the movie based on a previously fictional video game and its dissatisfied antagonist – won't even reach cinemas until February. On the one hand, that's ridiculously unfair given that the US first got to see it all the way back in November of last year. But on the other hand, the silver lining to this cloud is that we still get cool promotional stuff, like the redressing of a London street called Brick Lane as “8-Bit Lane”.
The street was only pixellated between January 11th and 13th, but you only have to check out the #8BitLane hashtag on Twitter to see plenty of pictures from people who were charmed by the quirky display. And if you want to see what the street looked like in full, you can head to the 8 Bit Lane website, which has a slightly dodgy interactive panorama complete with blurry-faced Londoners. There's even a game of sorts, asking you to spot “the elements Ralph has turned 8 bit”. Conveniently, there are eight of them.
Wreck-It Ralph hits UK cinemas on February 8th. But thanks to its early release in the States, it's already been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film and an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Have you seen it yet?
