Black Ops 2 has a PlayStation 3 problem. Before we get into that, it needs to be said that the game has multiple problems on the system, which runs with a lot more instability than on the Xbox 360 or the PC. These problems have persisted since the game's launch and players on the PS3 have had little choice but to simply deal with the random freezes that the game seems to suffer from.
The PS3 version of the game often freezes—not completely locking up, but causing a stutter while you're browsing through the game's various menus, joining friends' gaming sessions, or even just looking at emblems. The problem with these random freezes is that it can impact gameplay sessions.
One user on reddit, winterdoze, reports that he or she has been able to significantly reduce these freezes by uninstalling the game's texture pack. Many players, myself included, chose to install the texture pack upon booting the game up for the first time as it's commonly assumed that doing so will improve the performance of the game as it reduces streaming from the Blu-Ray disc.
That doesn't seem to be the case with Black Ops 2, as performance appears to suffer when the data is installed, contrary to expectations.
To remove the texture pack, simply enter the Game Data Utility menu on your PlayStation 3 and find Black Ops 2. Hit the triangle button and delete the data weighing 1.3gb in size.
The fix might not work for everyone, but it's worth a shot.
