Steam has just opened up a new beta for members of the Steam Community Beta, called “Game Guides”. Game Guides will enable you to “create a guide to help fellow gamers and share your expertise in whatever game you like”.
The Game Guides beta is automatically accessible to those who are members of the Steam Community Beta Group, so if you want to try it out all you have to do is sign up, and head to the Game Hub for any game you play on Steam. Once you're there, look for the “Guides” tab and there'll be a button to create a guide.
When making a guide, you can upload images or use ones you've already got saved in Steam, insert YouTube videos, and even add other people to collaborate with you in writing the guide. Once you publish the guide, it'll be accessible to the whole community.
Obviously, Steam has a massive user base, and this could be a really positive tool for PC users. If the beta proves popular enough and enough people chip in to form a comprehensive database of guides, Steam could easily find itself rivalling GameFAQs.
If you want to offer Steam some feedback on the beta, including suggestions for possible features, head over to join the discussion. And, of course, let us know what you think in the comments below.
