Apple has selected the content to include in its “Best of 2012” list, and Rayman Jungle Run has secured “Game of the Year” for iPhone. Aside from the runner-up, the difficult yet addictive Super Hexagon, Apple has also paid lip service to a few other games it considers to be notable. In “Casual Games”, it mentions Catapult King, Shark Dash, and Bad Piggies among others. Need for Speed Most Wanted gets a mention as a “Showpiece Game”, i.e. one with “dazzling” production quality, and Hero Academy is mentioned as a game that “broke new ground”.
In the iPad section, the title named “Game of the Year” is The Room, a classical example of an “escape the room” puzzler. Runner-up goes to Eufloria HD, a pretty strategy game. Here, the “Casual Games” section also mentions Tiny Wings HD and Skylanders Cloud Patrol and Walking Dead: The Game gets a look in under “Showpiece Games” alongside Bastion and Waking Mars.
If you've got an iOS device, you really should try out the “Game of the Year”. Rayman Jungle Run might feel short, but that'll only be because it feels so much a proper console platformer that you'll expect it to be longer. And it's only £1.99/$2.99.
