Blizzard Entertainment is a staple name for the gaming community, especially on the PC platform. They have brought out some massive iconic video game franchises that have been adapted into different mediums along with titles that are known for eSports.
Over the years we’ve seen a number of titles released, though the development studio has kept more towards catering to the fans of some of their bigger franchise releases, that being WarCraft, StarCraft, and Diablo. With their latest new IP Overwatch being a massive success, it’s curious as to what the developers may have in-store for gamers next.
Fortunately, it seems that the folks over at Blizzard Entertainment have been working on some projects and ideas of their own. Thanks to a post made by DualShockers, we’ve learned that Mike Morhaime, President, and Co-Founder of Blizzard Entertainment spoke up about new IPs during an Activision quarterly financial conference call.
Apparently, Mike Morhaime has stated that they are in a great position to deliver new IPs with the studio having dedicated incubation teams who are working on different ideas and explore them for future development projects.
With that said, Blizzard has had no problem when it comes to killing off projects that they seem to lack their intended feel and expectations. For instance, we have seen the title such as StarCraft: Ghost get announced only to go through a development hell process before being killed off.
Most recently, the developers killed their MMO which was codenamed Titan back in 2014. While it would be exciting news to see a brand new IP get announced from the behemoth video game development studio, we may be waiting for some time to come.
There’s bound to be some concern as to how well the new IP will differentiate itself from other title series from Blizzard Entertainment along with if it can hold up as an eSports title.
For now, we’ll simply have to wait and see just what comes of these potential new IPs from Blizzard Entertainment.
