Crash Bandicoot File Size Revealed

June 27, 2017 by Jordan Coetsee

Surprisingly, it ain’t that big.

Slow internet connection? You might wanna check up on the file size for the Vicarious Vision’s remaster of the PS1’s Crash Bandicoot series.

Free up some HDD space because The trilogy will weigh in at 23.42GB, a pretty decent size considering it’s 3 games in one.

Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy will launches on June 30 exclusively for the PS4. Excited to revisit the familiarity of smashing boxes and dealing with the series quirky characters? Let us know in the comments below.

In other Crash Bandicoot news, did you know that the remastered version was built almost entirely from scratch? Considering the age of the title, the development team had very little to start off with.

Considering Crash Bandicoot’s age it makes one wonder just how far development went into remastering the title, and it seems the team went straight to the bare bones. Speaking to Ars Technica, Vicarious Visions designer Dan Tanguay revealed that most of the code had been redone for the upcoming remaster. “Almost everything was missing,” Tanguay said, revealing that Vicarious had to basically work from scratch.

“The original engine was specifically built for PlayStation 1,” Tanguay said. “Naughty Dog pushed [the PS1] to the limits. They made a fantastic engine for doing that. That engine didn’t see the light of day beyond PlayStation 1, as far as I know, and it certainly wasn’t usable by us. Any code, anything like that, we didn’t have access to.”
