Head of Xbox Games marketing Aaron Greenberg has announced via Twitter that Phantom Dust, Microsoft’s action strategy CCG title, will be heading to PC and Xbox One for free. Originally released in 2004 (2005 in North America) for the Xbox, Phantom Dust went on to achieve cult-classic status and score positive reviews across the board.
Earlier this year, Microsoft general manager Shannon Loftis said that Phantom Dust’s development was “going well” but was quiet about a release date, emphasising that it takes “decent work” to port an Xbox game to the Xbox One. The remastered version was first announced last June after a failed attempt to reboot the game for Xbox One. Greenberg confirmed that Phantom Dust would be a ‘Play Anywhere’ title, meaning that games purchased on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC are cross-compatible – once you buy a game on one platform, it immediately becomes accessible on the other at no extra cost. Phantom Dust will reportedly be updated for a more modern audience in key ways, including achievements, a widescreen feature and 4K resolution support.
Phantom Dust will release on May 16 for Xbox One and PC.
