Joining the likes of EA Sports with its offer of free advertising space to the Movember campaign, Blizzard is seeking to prove that it too can use its huge fan base to help a good cause, in this case disaster relief. The company has stated on its World of Warcraft blog that all money made from sales (or “adoptions”) of its upcoming Cinder Kittens in the game will go to the Red Cross' Superstorm Sandy Response relief efforts.
While the Cinder Kittens aren't available yet, the effects of Superstorm Sandy aren't going away any time soon either, so any added boost to relief funds that comes about as a result of this offer can only be a good thing. Blizzard will announce details of when and how you can purchase your own Cinder Kitten within the next few weeks.
When the Cinder Kittens do become available, you'll be able to adopt one for $10, presumably from the Pet Store, though Blizzard hasn't stated whether or not you'll be able to buy one for a friend. The Cinder Kitten was first revealed when players closely examined a recent World of Warcraft patch, but there isn't much information available aside from the couple of pictures Blizzard has revealed.
What do you think? Cute? Worth $10? And are you more or less likely to buy an in-game item like this if the proceeds go to charity?
