DICE has released has just released the premier trailer for Battlefield 3's Aftermath expansion. However, it's not your usual montage showing off slick kills and whatnot; and what we get instead is more akin to a campaign DLC than a multiplayer expansion.
If you didn't know this was a multiplayer expansion, I wouldn't fault you for thinking it was added content for Battlefield 3's campaign. For one, the trailer doesn't start with any gameplay footage, but starts with a cutscene of sorts that shows us some new character models. Will these be available in multiplayer as new skins? It wouldn't surprise me if it did.
In addition to the different character models, Aftermath will feature an all-new game mode called Scavenger, which DICE lists as:
Battlefield 3: Aftermath features all multiplayer game modes from the base game, plus the all-new Scavenger mode. In Scavenger mode, lost soldiers start equipped with only a knife, one grenade, and sidearm and must search the environment for more powerful weapons to increase their chance at surviving and eventually winning.
Not bad, no? Finally, DICE is also introducing the crossbow to the franchise, which you can see used to great effect in the game's post credit scene.
Aftermath will be available for Battlefield 3 Premium PS3 members on November 27, December 4 for Xbox 360 and PC Premium members, while non-Premium members will need to wait until December 11 (PS3) and December 18 (Xbox 360 and PC) to be able to play in the post-earthquake maps of Iran.
Anyone excited to use crossbows in Battlefield 3? What did you think of the trailer?
