Nintendo Switch Opens Account Registration

Feb 21, 2017 Jordan Coetsee

Gamers can now preemptively register for their new Nintendo account ID.

Nintendo refreshed its account system loading page this week. You know what this means; usernames are now up for grabs.

It’s common knowledge that the Switch is a change in direction for Nintendo’s business model. Part of it is in that its appeal is planned for committed gamers as opposed to roping in new fans. This change is being expressed in changes in their online services. However, the process does feel familiar to their console counterparts.

To choose a new Nintendo ID, gamers will have to log in to the Nintendo account website. Here, they will include a user ID with their information (there can be no duplicate names).

This boots confidence in the accessibility of online play for the Switch, which was lacking on previous Nintendo platforms.

The Nintendo Switch releases on March 3, 2017.
