Explore A Nordic Shipwreck Through Viking Point & Click ‘The Frostrune’

February 6, 2017 by Katrina Filippidis

Vikings. History. Puzzles.

If Thor was one of your most anticipated films of 2011, then Grimnir Media’s The Frostrune, a classic graphic adventure wrapped in viking myths and legends might be a nice followup. After a summer storm, you find yourself washed up on an abandoned island surrounded by dense forests, teeming with ancient runes and burial mounds. Your job is to dig up the island’s secrets and embark on a journey of discovery.

In development for several years, The Frostrune managed to gather the attention of national Norwegian television stations due to its historical content, and celebrated its official launch at the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo, Norway. Here is a list of the game’s features:

  • Rich Story – The Frostrune embraces the Nordic tradition of storytelling: One filled with magic, myth and wonder common in Viking lore.
  • Hand-Painted Art – Beautiful, hand-painted art and an original Viking age themed soundtrack bring the The Frostrune’s desolate Norse landscape to life.
  • Challenging Puzzles – Through exploring the rich environment, you will unravel the mystery of the deserted island. Use the objects that you collect to solve puzzles on your journey of discovery.
  • Culturally & Historically Accurate – An authentic Norse environment where elements from myths and folklore come alive. Old Norse speech with subtitles. All objects faithfully recreated from archaeological sources.

Interested players can grab The Frostrune today for PC or Mac at $8.99 USD (10% off until February 10) from Steam or Humble Bundle. If you’re more of a mobile gamer, the developers have released iOS and Android builds to play on the go.
