New Gaming Tablet To Be Sold By Gamestop

September 7, 2012 by Patricia Hernandez

New shiny toy for you to splurge 500 bucks on, if you have em.

Check this out: a new gaming tablet, called the Wikipad, has just revealed its final design and pricepoint. Looks kind of cumbersome and clunky to me, but hey, maybe I'm just not the target audience here. I guess the screen itself looks slick.

It's a 10.1 inch slate that is 8.6mm thin, and weights about a pound. It comes with what most tablets don't: BUTTONS. Though you gotta wonder what the point of this is; touch games should be played with touch, and if you're not a fan, why not play games that were designed for buttons? Hopefully there's an audience for this.

Nonetheless, here are the innards:

1.4GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor

1GB of RAM

Choice of either 16GB or 32GB storage,

microSD slot

How much will this cost you? 500 big ones. Not cheap by any means. And why should you invest in this? Well, Gamestop is pledging exclusive games for the tablet, some from game publishers we know and love…but no specific mentions. A red flag, that. At the very least we know that PlayStation mobile games will be available at some point. And it's possible we'll see a Gakai appearance. Given how fast the tablet has achieved these partnerships, maybe there's hope in its future. At least, this seems more secure than investing in an Ouya if you ask me….though not as cheap, obviously.

So if this information is enough to make you grab for your wallet, you can preorder the tablet at GameStop starting tomorrow.
