Counter-Strike, Call of Duty Ripped Off By Free Korean Knock-Off

August 27, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

de_dust2 has been ripped off by Webzen’s knockoff of Modern Warfare.

Webzen's new competitive first person shooter Arctic Combat may bear a lot of strong similarities to both Counter-Strike and Modern Warfare, but it's never been accused of plagiarising the game outright—at least until now.

It wouldn't be the first time that a Korean game has been heavily inspired by a more popular Western title, but this may well count as the first instance of a direct reproduction with the discovery that one particular map—Sand Storm—strongly resembles the popular Counter-Strike map, de_dust2.

The discovery was made by PC Gamer, which posted a video and a report of the offending map.

The new map appears to be slightly different from de_dust2, but details such as chokepoints and corridors have clearly been copied and pasted over.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the game has copied over other iconic maps from games like Black Ops, Modern Warfare and Day of Defeat.
