Details Released for LEGO Lord of the Rings Abilities

August 22, 2012 by Lana Polansky

List provides short preview of what to expect for the upcoming title.

LEGO Lord of the Rings, coming to us from TT Games this fall, promises to combine the creativity and aesthetic of the LEGO franchise with the fantasy and enchantment of the Tolkein series. The game, which spans the entire trilogy, will allow players to control over 80 characters on their way to Mount Doom. The game also contains a neat Palantir (or Seeing Stone) feature, which will allow players to hop between storylines.

Other than that, actual gameplay details for the upcoming title are somewhat scarce, but what is known so far is that characters will possess abilities inspired by story-world counterparts (either from the film or from the comic). In the meantime, That Videogame Blog has provided a short list detailing the abilities of a few characters, including Fellowship members.

It reads:

  • Frodo Baggins

Phial of Galadriel to act as a light in dark places. Elven cloak that camouflages the wearer. Wields Sting.  Possesses the One Ring which, when worn, accesses the Wraith-world of the Nazgul.

  • Samwise Gamgee (Sam)

Has a tinder box to start fires, sleek Elven rope to explore new areas, and ability to grow spectacular flowers and vines.

  • Gandalf

Has a magical staff that can lift and build LEGO objects, provide light in dark places and shoot out bolts of energy.

  • Aragorn

Possesses Andúril, the sword which bestows magical powers. Uncovers and follows the tracks of friends and foes alike

  • Legolas

Amazing sharp-shooter with his bow. Possesses extreme agility and balance.

  • Gimli

Shatters LEGO rocks with his mighty axe.

  • Boromir

Uses the Horn of Gondor to deafen enemies. Broad shield protects him from enemy attacks.

  • Merry and Pippin

Access to Hobbit holes, and crawl spaces. Elven cloak that camouflages the wearer.
