Overwatch Gets Shiny New ‘Oasis’ Map, Inspired by Arabian Desert

January 3, 2017 by Katrina Filippidis

Trouble in paradise: Overwatch’s latest playable map is based on a city dedicated to scientific progress without restraint.

A YouTube video from the PlayOverwatch channel has unveiled a new control/king of the hill map for Overwatch players to enjoy on all platforms. Currently live on servers, the map requires teams to dodge vehicles and use jump pads to capture and defend three different control points.

The reveal follows a statement from Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan late last year, which hinted at new maps, modes and DLC characters that would arrive in 2017. Blizzard’s official description of the Oasis map is as follows:

“There’s trouble in paradise as conflict breaks out in Oasis, a brand-new Control map set in one of the world’s most advanced cities, a shining jewel rising from the Arabian Desert.

Researchers and academics from around the region came together to found a city dedicated to scientific progress without restraints—a monument to human ingenuity and invention. The city and its inhabitants are governed by the Ministries, a collection of brilliant minds who possess many secrets that have attracted the interest of powerful organizations from around the world.”

According to SuperData Research, Overwatch was the highest grossing paid PC game in 2016.
