Studio Wildcard previously wanted their fans to vote for ARK: Survival Evolved in the Steam Awards, and promised them that they will add sheep into the game, aka Ovis Aries, if the game wins one of the awards.
This sparked relatively negative feedback from the studio’s fanbase, since they saw the move as an unethical way to push players to vote for the game in the “Best Use Of A Farm Animal” category. The voting process should be based on your own enjoyment of a specific game, and not because its developer promised you something in exchange for it.
Studio Wildcard understood their mistake and corrected it right away, releasing a statement announcing they will add sheep to ARK whether they win the title or not.
In our excitement, Ovis Aries was designed as a celebration of the nomination. We want to make it clear that regardless of whether ARK wins a Steam Award or not, Ovis will be making its debut in the next major ARK version update!
The studio also shared a work-in-progress picture of the sheep, which can be seen above. Wildcard realised they made a mistake and decided to fix it, mainly for their fans. Nice move Wildcard.
