After years of waiting, Konami have finally released the first round of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots trophies. The patch is live in Japan as of now. I'm not sure loading the game on an account linked to a territory the patch has been released in would allow you to download it early, but hopefully the point is moot and trophies and optional full install will be available in a more worldwide sense very, very shortly.
With the patch out, there's going to be an awful lot of people clued up on Metal Gear Solid history for the announcement of something big from Kojima & Co at the reveal of the Fox Engine at the end of the month, which is entirely why it's been done in the first place. Patches can be quite expensive business and the timing is pretty damn perfect, however you look at it.
Not that I'm complaining, of course. A trophy patch for one of my favourite PS3 games and a reveal, probably for a new game in my all-time favourite game series in one month? Yes, please.
Edit: I've just been informed the patch is now live in the US as well.
