PS4 and Next-Gen Xbox Will Require Beefy Specs to Support Square Enix Games

Square Enix managed to break new ground last month when it presented a tech demo of Agni's Philosophy, a vision of a possible game that the company intends to build upon. The visually impressive demonstration was rendered on the PC due to the limitations inherent in current generation consoles.

Speaking to Edge Magazine, Square Enix's creative director Takeshi Nozue revealed that Agni's Philosophy was conducted live on an Nvidia GTX 680. He said that getting a game that graphically intense to run would require a lot of memory, and said that next-gen consoles would have to carry a lot of RAM if they are to serve as platforms for his company's games.

"Memory size is the biggest challenge," he said.

Depending on the hardware specs of the next-gen consoles, developers like Square Enix may have to make compromises with their games or carry their focus over to the Mac and PC—two major platforms which aren't as inhibited by technical limitations. Manufacturers like Sony and Microsoft would do well to listen to developers' suggestions and recommendations.
