Halo 4 Multiplayer Map Longbow Offers Arctic Warfare

June 29, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

A newly unveiled map called Longbow is set to enable Spartans to fight in an arctic environment.

343 Industries has put together an in-depth description of one of the big multiplayer maps to grace its upcoming game, Halo 4. Titled "Longbow," this icy new map is set to take place on the polar region of the planet Concord, offering a frigid climate for Spartans to do battle in.

Longbow is a largely symmetrical map that's designed to "feel natural and almost accidental, while still telling an epic sci-fi story."

Halo has had a long multiplayer map history of offering snowbound battlegrounds, including maps like Sidewinder, Container, Snowbound and Avalanche. "That history continues with Longbow," reads the update.

343i's goal with Longbow is to explore one of the new and presently unannounced game modes of Halo 4. As the map features a mass driver, there's good reason to believe that the goal of one or both teams may be to activate the planetary weapon.

Screenshots of the new map are attached to this post.
