The original Gears of War trilogy followed the adventures of Marcus Fenix as he and his soldier buddies fought off an underground race of monsters known as the Locust, that one day decided to emerge from the ground and take over the surface world. At the conclusion of the third game, people thought that the story was over. Using some sort of science device, Marcus and friends are able to broadcast a wave of energy that kills off the Locust once and for all. By the time Gears of War 4 comes around, they’ve had peace for 25 years. Marcus even had a son, named JD. But it looks like the calm doesn’t last, according to the Gears of War 4 launch trailer.
JD and his friends Kait and Del escape an attack on their village, and they and Marcus all set forth on another bloody journey to find out where this new enemy comes from. Based on what we can see in the trailer, these creatures have some sort of weather control. When it comes to other forms of foreshadowing, the trailer shows Marcus taking more than a beating. It leads many to believe this game might be his last outing in the series. But they also show off the robot, motorbikes, and firepower available in JD’s arsenal – so maybe his Dad still has a fighting chance.
