There's little doubt nowadays that among the industry's big publishers, it's Ubisoft who's investing in Nintendo's Wii U the most. The publisher unveiled a healthy eight exclusive Wii U titles at this year's E3.
Why would they "risk" the Wii U and not just wait for the PS4 and Xbox 720? Well, according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillermot, the big risk thought by many is actually the opposite. Not only that, but he thinks the Wii U will be very successful at launch.
It’s easier at the beginning of the console cycle to astonish people and bring them new experiences than at the end of the cycle. So the risk that is seen as a big risk by many is actually the contrary.
Aside from that, Yves thinks the demand for the Wii U will be strong. So strong, in fact, that he expects Nintendo to sell through his projected manufactured estimate (5 million units) within the unit's first six months of launch.
Generally, that's what (Nintendo) does. The number can be more, it can be less… they are always limited in the number that they can build.
Now, that's a bold statement, no? Of course, you also have to consider that they are banking heavily into the Wii U. So it's not surprising to hear him say that.
Do you believe Guillermot's statements or do you think he's overestimating the Wii U's appeal?
