Today is the day that Apple introduces their new iPhone to the public. What nobody expected however, was that Shigeru Miyamoto would have a role in the presentation as well. But that’s what happened. The creator of Mario took to the stage to announce Super Mario Run, a mobile phone game centered around the iconic Nintendo plumber.

We all knew that Nintendo was looking to get their presence in the mobile market. They’ve several attempts to do so up until this point. With Miitomo, they introduced a social media experience with their own twist to it. When Pokemon Go came along, it was a sure-fire sign that people wanted the Nintendo experience on mobile phones. With Super Mario Run, Mario moves through a level automatically left to right, and he jumps to navigate past obstacles. In addition to that, there’s a Battle Mode that involves jumping and acquiring as many coins as possible before time expires.

Super Mario Run is expected to launch this Holiday for iOS. According to Kotaku, Android will get the game too eventually.
