Jenova Chen: PS3 Owners More Artistically Inclined

May 7, 2012 by Ron Taylor

Journey’s creator says PS3 owners are more artistically inclined than their counterparts on the Xbox.

Journey

Thatgameconpany head Jenova Chen recently talked about Sony's attitude towards more artistic games with GamesBeat.

He thinks the first-party publisher is more invested in games with artistic aspirations because one of their goals is releasing games that genuinely appeal to adults. That's an assessment I quite I agree with myself. Then Chen goes on to say something a bit more interesting:

“The player who owns a PlayStation 3 is more likely to be interested in artistic games compared to Wii and Xbox 360,” he says.

That honestly just seems like a baseless statement and it comes off as condescending to make matters worse.

It's an issue I personally often take with indie developers: They almost act as though they're better than console developers and they're not.

I know too many people who play on the Wii and 360 mainly who are just as thoughtful and intelligent and artistically inclined as any PS3 owner. Maybe Chen will take his next game multi-platform so he can discover this himself.
