New Clip Released For Raiders of The Broken Planet

Mercury Steam has released a new, nearly hour-long clip of gameplay for one of their upcoming titles, Raiders of The Broken Planet. Mercury Steam has also made several games in the Castlevania series. This game is a third person shooter with both cover elements and melee combat. The gameplay features commentary that explains the mechanics and the different design choices.

The beginning of the video features Enric Alvarez, Chief Game designer at MecurySteam Entertainment, who describes the five key pillars that went into the game as: Adventurous, Rebellious, Strategic, Unique, and Independent.

The game is adventurous, with a strong narrative and characters, along with a complex conflict system. He has stated that his company has always treated games as “adventures” Rebellious, with the player only having two options, being an “antihero” or part of the evil itself.

Alvarez stresses the game is strategic, but also very fast. He stresses thinking first and then shooting. The game is also unique in its look, which hearkens back to the late 80s and 90s, with some manga-style influences. The game is also Independent, as its creators enjoy having “full control” of the game and they, as Alvarez states, “fly with their own wings”.

This clip was initially shown at Gamelab Barcelona 2016, a game conference that transpired between June 29th and July 1st.
