Max Payne 3 Controls are a Marked Improvement Over Previous Rockstar Games

April 26, 2012 by Ron Taylor

Max Payne 3’s controls are a marked improvement over Rockstar’s previous titles.

Max Payne 3

We have before us (via NeoGAF) what appears to be the control layout for Rockstar's Max Payne 3.

Now, the combat in Rockstar games has always been a point of contention as well as concern. In both Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire, players enter cover using the upper right shoulder button. Anyone who’s put enough time into games in third-person shooter genre knows how awkward this can be.

Luckily, Rockstar seems to have gotten it right with Max Payne 3. The actions tied the square and circle buttons would be switched if I had my druthers, but I’m satisfied.

I figured Rockstar would have to learn one day. Given the huge focus on combat, I’m happy it was with Max Payne 3. Let’s hope it carries over to Grand Theft Auto V.
