Judging from the art in Dragon's Crown, I don't think the artists have ever seen a woman before. Note the absurdly large breasts, the scoliosis (crooked spine), and the swollen upper legs. It's as if they only understand the concept of a woman, but not what a woman actually looks like.
It's like in the Middle Ages, when artists who'd never traveled to Africa were given descriptions of the wildlife, and felt inspired to draw their put their interpretations to paper. They looked something like this:
That's Dürer's "rhinoceros". The artist, Albrecht Dürer, had never actually saw a live rhino and based his drawing on a brief sketch and a letter describing the creature.
Much like the aforementioned artist and his inability to draw a rhinoceros, Vanillaware seems to have difficulty drawing the female form. And much like comics artist Rob Liefeld, they're adamant on putting as much of their work into the market without any restraint whatsoever, blasting our eyes with ill-proportioned bodies under the guise of style.
This was initially going to be a tweet, but it merited a lengthier response to the art direction of Dragon's Crown.
