Sony Reveals Why PS Vita Was Not Present During E3

July 4, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

There’s simply not enough interest within the western territories.

PS Vita

E3 was held last month and it’s one of the biggest expos around for the video game industry. It’s during E3 when we see the big video game title announcements and normally some hardware reveals as well. However, during this year’s expo event, Sony seemed to have skipped over their latest handheld console, the PlayStation Vita. Today, we’re learning why the PS Vita was a no show.

Thanks to Dual Shockers, who was able to translate an interview between Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan and Asia’s Atsushi Morita and 4Gamer. It’s within this interview that some details were shared on the lack of Sony making their PlayStation Vita present during E3.

The fact of the matter is that the western territories are not too fond with Sony’s handheld console. Because, E3 caters more towards gamers within the west, Sony opted to showcase the most popular hardware and games within the territory. This happens to be a different story within the Eastern territories as the PS Vita still seems to be thriving with gamers.

In fact, it was also revealed that Sony is now moving more PlayStation 4 consoles than ever with Japanese gamers, which happened to be a problem at the start of the PlayStation 4 console life cycle. Regardless, if there is a growth of gamers interested in the PlayStation Vita handheld console, then there will be more reveals and dedication to delivering video games.

Furthermore, Atsushi Morita would not comment on if Sony would see a PlayStation Vita successor. For now, we’ll have to wait and see just what video game reveals will be coming towards to the Sony handheld during the Tokyo Game Show.
