Call of Duty Could’ve Had a Tactical Entry

April 19, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Developer Vicarious Visions was working on a prototype game for Call of Duty that could’ve been the first tactical entry in the series.

A new project was uncovered by superannuation, the sleuth best known for digging up games that never were, and games that have yet to be announced.

Superannuation found a clip of a Vicarious Visions-developed game on a developer's personal website which showed a prototype of a Call of Duty spinoff title of a tactical nature. The developer, Steve Nelson, was formerly of the studio and listed the title as a prototype game for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

The 40-second clip begins with an over-the-shoulder view of a bazooka-armed infantryman, and follows with the rest of the squad taking shots at a German anti-air position. The game appears reminiscent of Company of Heroes, but with a much tighter focus on fewer characters.

This may be the first and last thing we'll ever hear about the unnamed Call of Duty game.

You can watch the video above the fold.
