Team Ico knows that The Last Guardian is a unique game and has been anticipated for years now, and that’s why they decided to do something special for it.
In an interview with the PlayStation Blog, The Last Guardian’s Director Fumito Ueda announced that for the first time in the studio’s history, their game is going to feature a voiceover. Even though, Team Ico only has two games under their belt, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, and a collection including them both, this doesn’t take away from the quality of those games.
“At the start of the game we use a voiceover of the boy when he’s older. It helps provide a sense of context when much of the communication is non-verbal. It brings the player closer to the boy because you can get direct access to his thoughts. It also gives us a natural way to deliver hints, information, and exposition to the player.”
The boy and his companion, Trico, won’t be able to communicate vocally, instead they will use gestures, motion and signals.
“One of my favorite things about the game are the “eureka” moments; when the boy is trying to get Trico to understand something and he finally gets it.”
The Last Guardian releases on October 25th exclusively for PlayStation 4.
