Ubisoft to use Cloud Storage for Saving Game States Across Many Devices

March 29, 2012 by Andrew Kent

Ubisoft is going to be using the cloud to store future game states over lots of devices.

It seems as if Ubisoft is jumping on the cloud bandwagon, but instead using it as a solution to being able to play games across more than one device. Ubisoft’s Head of Digital Chris Early, in an interview with Pocket Lint, commented that games being played across more than one device was “a huge issue”. This “huge issue” applied to Ghost Recon Commander and Ubisoft has the solution. The company will store your character on a main server which will then give you the ability to access it on Facebook or a mobile device.

I personally am a bit iffy with cloud storage. Yes, it’s a great solution and all but I want my stuff saved internally and don’t really care too much about playing across multiple devices. I’m assuming that you would probably be able to store your character for Ghost Recon Commander internally as well as on the cloud though. Either way, cloud gaming for me is too unreliable because of how fickle new technology can be. At least internal storage has been tried and true. It’s not without its faults I’m sure, but I still trust that more than cloud storage. Call me crazy I guess.
