Mojang made a huge and unexpected announcement for all of Minecraft.
XBOX CEO Asha Sharma shared the news on social media:
Today at Minecraft LIVE: Dungeons II, our first new dimension in more than 14 years, new ways for creators to build, Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2, and more.

Notably, this is the first time Asha has mentioned the Switch 2.
The new dimension is called the Sift, and it will be added to bedrock and Java Minecraft in 2027. But before that, the Sift will be introduced in Minecraft Dungeons II on September 29. Mojang is keeping most things secret, but they hint at new biomes, Meadows and Carapace, new blocks, new mobs, etc.
When Asha started XBOX’s reset last July, she revealed that Mojang will answer directly to her. We don’t know how long Mojang was working on The Sift, but she may have moved blocks of mountains to get it out ASAP.
