Id and MachineGames have a huge treat for Quake fans.
To mark the franchise’s 30 year anniversary, they have released a new expansion for the game. In Quake Episode III: Dawn of the Machine, the Ranger enters a labyrinthine timeloop where they’ll need to find their way to break away by facing the Nightmare Machine.
As you may have guessed, this won’t be available on DOS and Windows 95. This is the 3rd episode MachineGames made for the 2021 version of Quake. This rerelease was originally developed by id and NightDive Studios, and come with the enhancements you expect from NightDive. Meanwhile, MachineGames worked on additional episodes that were bundled in, called Dimension of the Past and Dimension of the Machine.
The good news is that this version is the one that’s available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch (and by extension, the Switch 2). Even better, Episode III Dawn of the Machine is free with 2021 Quake.
