Shuhei Yoshida has revised a key point in the story of his career at Sony.

As reported by This Week in Video Games, he revealed that he was fired from being president of SCE/SIE Worldwide Studios. Shuhei spoke about this at the ALT:GAMES event in Australia.
Shuhei held this named position from 2008, and he spoke about working on God of War, Uncharted, The Last Of Us, and his last franchise, Ghost of Tsushima.
We’ll let Shuhei explain what happened next in his words:
But in 2019, after 11 years leading the first-party development, I was fired from the role.
Jim Ryan wanted to remove me from first-party because I didn’t listen to him. He asked to do some ridiculous things, and I said ‘No.
Previously, Shuhei said that Jim forced him to either take a new position to help manage indies or leave Sony. We should be clear that Shuhei chose to retire at the start of 2025 on his own.
While Shuhei is still keeping some things about this incident private, it’s clear that there was dissension in PlayStation management nearly a decade ago.
