Grand Theft Auto Online Just Received A New Background Update

December 12, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

Rockstar made a lot of fixes to Mission Creator – but they may need to make more.

Tex2 found that Gearbox pushed forward a background update for Grand Theft Auto Online.

This update is clearly intended to improve what was added in with A Safehouse in the Hills.

Here’s the notes Tex2 shared for this background update on Twitter:

  • You are now given a small set of weapons when testing missions in the Mission Creator
  • Lives are now set to Unlimited by default in the Mission Creator
  • Lives and Respawn Range have been adjusted in Mission Creator tutorial missions
  • Fixes an issue that allowed players to boost production for a business without completing its setup mission
  • Fixes an issue that prevented Madrazo Hits from appearing for some players
  • Fixes an issue with warping/exit sequence when exiting the LS Car Meet Test Track in a Personal Vehicle
  • Fixes an issue that cause the Security Team to appear in the Mansion when the player hadn’t purchased the Security upgrade
  • Fixes an issue where the mansions were displayed within the minimap in pre-DLC missions
  • Patches Garment Factory No Ragdoll glitch

A Safehouse in the Hills Launched With Some Issues

As exciting as A Safehouse in the Hills was, it’s clear that this update came with some issues that needed fixing.

Nothing appears to have been particularly game breaking. Otherwise, Rockstar would have had to announce a major update for the game.

In this case, Rockstar opted for background updates. These improve the overall experience, but they didn’t have to tell gamers about it.

How Long Before Rockstar Fixes Everything?

While we can give Rockstar some slack on fixing this, we do have to question how many more fixes will be necessary.

We can see that this was a really ambitious update that added so many things all at once. So yes, it’s understandable that not everything could be working as expected.

This is all complicated because Rockstar has to deploy this to PC, and account for multiple setups that will run the game on optimal and low power hardware.

But the ideal, of course, is that all these issues were caught and addressed before the update was launched. It’s reasonable to expect all of this to just work when it gets published.

If you haven’t logged back in yet, you may want to hold off on messing with the Mission Creator. Thankfully, there are the Home Sweet Home missions with Michael or the KnoWay Out missions to keep you occupied and get your character updated until they get all the kinks out.
