Grand Theft Auto Online’s Mansions Are Cheaper Than Everyone Expected – But Maybe There’s A Reason For That

I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised.

Mansions are now live in Grand Theft Auto Online – and they aren’t as bad as everyone expected.

Why Everyone Expected The Worst

Yesterday, word spread around that Rockstar was giving out GTA$ 20 million to their content creators ahead of today’s launch of Grand Theft Auto Online: A Safehouse in the Hills.

That created expectations that mansions could cost GTA$ 20 million, or possibly even more. The idea was that these players would have to earn the right to make and own these mansions while streaming them.

The Mansions And Prices We Actually Received

Tex2 shared details for these mansions, and now we know what their prices are. We’ll share the 411 below:

The Tongva Estate

GTA$ 11,500,000

Perched loftly atop the Tongva Hills and a stone’s throw away from San Andras Wine Country, you’ll be able to smell the fragrant aroma of this year’s vintage yet comfortably ignore the complaints of disgruntled grape pickers.

The Vinewood Residence

GTA$ 12,200,000

Close to Los Santos, while avoiding those in the wrong tax bracket, this magnificent hillside mansions allows you to bask in the proud heritage of the city, the rich landscape of the rolling hills, and the alluring glow of the Vinewood sign.

Richman Villa

GTA$ 12,800,000

This sprawling residence grants you a luxurious double life that only unelected officials can afford.

Indulge in the vibrant hedonism offered in the city, then retreat home for more hedonism, but this time private with all your home comforts.

Why Aren’t These Mansions More Expensive?

We think we have a pretty good guess on why these mansions did not turn out to be that expensive. The pricing for these mansions actually say “From GTA$ 11,500,000” and above.

And what that means is that the player can incur even more costs in buying these mansions. We suspect that these are the base prices, that don’t account for the amenities that you will then have to add in to the final bill.

For those who don’t know, this is how it works when you buy real estate properties in real life, even if you aren’t building full on mansions. Real estate companies will quote a base price that you can then add onto with more amenities. And in real life, you can certainly choose to have the company take care of everything, or spend on additional renovations in the following months and years afterwards.

But it sounds like Grand Theft Auto Online players will learn more about how real estate works in the coming days.
