Hideo Kojima Is Not Certain If OD Will Work Out

December 8, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Kojima opens up on OD.

After Hideo Kojima took his leave from Konami and opened up his own studio, Kojima Productions, fans were ready to see what he would cook up. With complete creative control over his work, there were bound to be some ideas that he would like to pursue that weren’t possible during his time at Konami. So far, we have only two Death Stranding games, a franchise that has been well-received and unique in its own right. However, one game that should really give fans something different is OD.

OD is just one of the video game projects that Hideo Kojima is working on at Kojima Productions. We have only seen small snippets of the game’s marketing materials. Unfortunately, we’re not any closer to knowing when we’ll actually get our hands on the game. Likewise, it remains a mystery what exactly this game will be about. Fortunately, Kojima did open up a tiny bit about the upcoming project.

OD Might Not Fully Materialize As Kojima Hoped

If you need a reminder, it was a while back that Hideo Kojima was seeking out a partnership to deliver a new kind of game. It wouldn’t be until he met with Xbox that he felt they could help bring the game around and deliver it to players as he envisioned. What kind of tech was required to help make this game remains a mystery, much like what OD is even about.

However, thanks to VGC, we’re learning that Hideo Kojima spoke with the Japanese publication Ananweb. During the conversation, OD was brought up with Hideo, noting that he can’t say exactly what the game is or if it will even work out. The famed developer went on to say that his games have always had some connection to another genre or type of game.

However, with OD, it’s something completely new. This new experience, being built from the ground up, is a challenge. It’s just unclear whether there’s a way to deliver a game quite like Kojima is currently envisioning. As a result, I’m not quite sure whether we’ll actually see OD come to market or if it will be another game that was unfortunately scrapped.

Regardless, it’s certainly exciting. Whatever this mystery horror game is about and how it will play will hopefully be unveiled sooner rather than later. After all, we do have The Game Awards coming this week, so perhaps we’ll see something come from that about OD.
