Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Mode Is Being Resurrected By Fans

Development is progressing smoothly.

Cyberpunk 2077 was not the grand success right out of the gate. There was a massive flood of players interested in picking this game up when it was first unveiled, and the hype led to great disappointment. Its launch was riddled with bugs and technical issues. Likewise, it was so bad that the game was completely removed from the PlayStation Store. As a result, CD Projekt Red had to work hard to turn this game around, and that ultimately meant there would be some cuts to their post-launch plans.

Multiplayer was just one of the plans for the game at the development studio initially. We would get this grand single-player RPG campaign and world to explore. Eventually, we would see a multiplayer component added to the mix. Unfortunately, that was scrapped so CD Projekt Red developers could have time to bring this game back with fewer bugs and issues than we had at launch.

Fans Are Resurrecting Cyberpunk 2077’s Multiplayer

Modders are taking it upon themselves to bring out this fabled multiplayer component. We’ve seen some incredible mods from the fandom community in the past. Some of those mods are praised not only by other fans but by developers themselves. This new mod project, which a community is working on, should hopefully do the same as they seek to bring one of the features developers had intended for their RPG.

Thanks to The Gamer, we’re learning that the CyberMP mod has just ended its latest closed beta. The results, as described in a Discord message, were a big success. Bugs have been cleared, and clients for the game remain operational, with some crashes resulting from issues outside the CyberMP client. So, this grand success should hopefully mean the progress is on track for an eventual release.

Players can explore Night City, take part in PvP action, or race throughout the city streets. Unfortunately, we’re not quite sure yet when this team is ready to drop the mod for players to take on. But hopefully, we’re not too far away from news on that front. Meanwhile, there’s potentially even more official Cyberpunk 2077 news on the way, as a cryptic social media message has fans looking toward an announcement next week.
