Red Dead Redemption Officially Confirmed And Are Free Upgrades For PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, And Switch 2

November 14, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

Rockstar making this a free upgrade does sweeten the deal.

Red Dead Redemption has been officially confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Rockstar made the official announcement on Twitter:

Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare are coming to Netflix, iOS, Android, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on Dec 2.

Experience these epic Western adventures with free upgrades, the ability to carry over game progress, and more.

Yesterday, we reported on the game’s ESRB rating for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Shortly after, Rockstar made this announcement. They also revealed that the game was coming to iOS and Android via Netflix for the first time.

As we speculated on earlier, Rockstar is using the updated PC version they released last year as the basis for these new ports. As a result, these new ports are getting the new enhancements.

Rockstar promises that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S get 60 FPS, HDR, and resolution up to 4K resolution. They didn’t elaborate but we suspect that gamers are going to have to choose once again between performance and quality modes.

Subsequently, we should probably expect the Xbox Series S version in particular won’t have the image quality of other versions. But this brings up an interesting comparison.

For the Nintendo Switch 2, Rockstar promises DLSS, HDR, fluid 60 FPS, and of course, mouse controls. They did not promise 4K for the Switch 2 version but that’s where Nintendo distinguishes itself.

Nvidia’s unique bag of tricks has already wowed fans. We ourselves reported on how Street Fighter 6, for example, did some things better on the Switch 2 than on PlayStation 5. Now, we know thanks to Star Wars Outlaws that it can even run ray tracing on the portable.

We will have to wait for when the games come out this December before we can confirm how these different versions perform. But there is one last bit of good news.

Rockstar revealed that gamers who already own the game on Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox will get a free upgrade. Xbox 360 owners who registered their disc for a digital copy, of course, are the real winners here. But if you bought the game on Switch or PlayStation 4 in the last two years, you win one too.

While this isn’t Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar has done enough things right to make this Red Dead Redemption rerelease genuinely exciting.
