For some reason, there’s a way to disable Halloween weather in Grand Theft Auto Online.

A week ago, Rockstar activated Halloween weather as part of Grand Theft Auto Online’s Halloween festivities. This indicates that UFOs will now be appearing more frequently as the Halloween event finishes up this week.

Los Santos gets enveloped in a green filter that produces hues of brown and orange around it. This doesn’t exactly reflect how UFO abductions happen in real life.

But it is understandable if some players don’t want to experience it anymore. While it should establish an atmosphere for UFO appearances, it also makes it harder to see things around the city.

How To Remove The Halloween Weather

RockstarIntel found user Glyphistaken’s instructions to remove Halloween weather. It’s really simple to do, but it can be a little confusing.

  1. Go to the entrance of your apartment. You can do this with any apartment you own.
  2. Enter the apartment garage.
  3. Go back into the apartment using the elevator.
  4. Leave the apartment using the elevator, but without going to the garage.

While this removes the weather, this is only a temporary fix. The Halloween weather will come back after you finish a job or if you start a new game session.

Alternately, you can use green tint glasses and switch to first person mode to reduce the effect of Halloween weather’s green filter.

Is This Fix Intentional?

Given the nature of this fix, it is possible that this was something the developers put in themselves. It’s an easy way to disable the weather so the developers can switch between the two.

And why would the developers add this to the game? They would need a way to do this for troubleshooting purposes.

If that was what this was for, Rockstar probably won’t move to remove this even though it’s now been found out. Halloween weather was only active for a few days, and this wasn’t a game breaking bug.

Should Rockstar Let Players Opt Out Of Events On Purpose?

It does raise the question if Rockstar should let players choose not to join in on these events. Of course, these are intended to keep players interested and keep playing.

That’s especially important for live service games. But if you’re making changes as drastic as making the city harder to look around in, maybe there should be an option not to join in on those kinds of events.
