Maybe we don’t all want to hype the biggest video game launch in the industry’s history with fake rumors.

Tez2 was named in a rumor that’s been going around since last week. To quote one user’s account of the rumor:
According to the famous leaker Tez2, the third trailer for the game #GTA6 is scheduled to be showcased on December 2, and it is said to focus outside the city of Leonida. #GTAVI
When Tez2 was tagged and asked point blank if he shared this rumor, he simply replied:
Nope
Why Are Fake Grand Theft Auto 6 Rumors Happening Now?
Of course, we understand that there are a lot of really excited Rockstar fans. Grand Theft Auto is definitely in contention with Mario and Fortnite as one of the biggest video game franchises in the industry today.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is projected by real financial analysts as the biggest single video game launch in history. The reason for that is not only the prestige and popularity of the brand.
There is a pent-up demand for the game that goes back to over a decade. And this is because Rockstar literally made fans wait that long for a sequel to come out.
This was a huge change to how often Rockstar had made and released these games in the past.
But this demand for Grand Theft Auto 6 hype is not planned by Rockstar anyway.
Should We Tolerate Fake Grand Theft Auto 6 Rumors?
In this particular case, Tez2 was obliged to disown and debunk this rumor immediately. His own reputation was being tied to this fake rumor.
If he didn’t speak out against this rumor immediately, that could be perceived as confirmation. And of course, his own reputation would take the hit when that December 2 date passed with no trailer.
But what if these rumors spread with no source? In that case, spreading such rumors would ultimately harm, not help the game.
Other fan communities have seen this phenomena firsthand. And what often happens is gamers treat fake rumors as official announcements or claims from the game company.
That creates a situation where the fans can get disappointed when the company doesn’t meet a promise they didn’t make. Some fans who aren’t paying attention might seriously think that the company really made that promise.
We think speculation is harmless, but there is a line that’s crossed when it crosses over into fake rumors. While some rumors cannot be dismissed completely, it’s imperative to debunk fake rumors when they’re found out.
